We had spent 5 days at the First Mountain Hotel in Gaschurn, in the Montafon Alps. It was overall a great experience. The Montafon area is very beautiful and this hotel has a relaxing atmosphere. It is situated in a convenient location on the main road in Gasschurn. The bus stop is just a minute away. We had booked an all-inclusive arrangement. We got a very spacious room on thethird floor for a family of 4 (2 kids). The master bed was very large and comfortable. The second bed was a sofa-cum-bed, but it was also very comfortable. There was a large storage space for clothes. We had an excellent view of the Alps from our window. Amenities in the room were fine. Ample lighting, chairs, tables, etc. Maintenance was also very good. The staff were friendly.The owner spoke English; the other employees were mostly students and tried to speak English, although they could help you more easily if you could speak a little German. The hotel was overall very clean and well-kept. The plus point is a large play-area for the children. It had a play equipment with a ball area for the little ones, a slide and other climbing equipment. There was also a wall climbing frame (good preparation for mountain climbing).But you need to register for that and pay (5 euros I think) for special training on Tuesdays. An indoor basket ball court and some other equipment was also present. TheTV room had also a lot of games for children. In short, enough indoor amusement for kids. And Tuesday night was the cinema night, where they played a children's movie(unfortunately only in German) and provided popcorn and sweets for the kids. There was more than enough information about what to do and where to go, in the form of booklets, near the reception. There was also a sauna but we did not use it. Last but not the least, the food. It was delicious, varied and more than enough! The times are adhered to (esp. coffee). Dinner is sometimes served even 15 minutes early. They are aware of allergies and honour special requests like vegetarian food. (Anyway, they have vegetarian option at every dinner). There is always plemnty of salad for breakfast and dinner. And almost always soup for dinner. There is always a kids' menu - with 3 items (older people can also help themselves to it). The night we came was the best of all days - an extensive pasta menu - cannelloni, spaghetti and another pasta with cheese sauce and bolognese were the main items. Dessert was apple strudel. The second night it was cold cucumber soup, kasslerbraten in mustard sauce with sauerkraut and "butter potatoes", putengeschnezeltes with farfalle and vegetable risotto. Dessert was vanille topfen with fruits. The third night was rice with stir-fried vegetables, French fries, baked potatoes & a chocolate pudding of some type. The fourth night was the grill night which was held outdoors. There was nothing except salad and baked potatoes & tzaziki for the vegetarian people. They could have grilled some other vegetables like capsicum or tofu burgers... No dessert. The landlady was very kind and organised activities for the children.There was a special kinder-grill party for the children. They toasted garlic breadover the open fire and also marshmallows. It was enjoyed by the kids.At 8:30, people could also join in for a walk of about an hour holding torches. The last night of our stay it was pumpkin soup, haehnchenbrustfilet inclearsauce, carrots and croquettes (veg.), penne and goulash, potato augratin, chocolade mousse. It was again delicious. Breakfast was the same everyday, but there was a lot of variety. Apart from the usual bread, buns, cereals, yoghurt, coffee and salads, there was a waffle corner where you could make your own fresh waffles. Nice activity for the children. The bread was also nice fresh and tasty. Drinks (juice et. al.) are unlimited and are usually apple juice, johannisbeeren juice and orange juice in the mornings. The cake accompanying coffee is usually the same, but we skipped it on many days as we were out sightseeing.The lunch is soup and some buns; really enough considering the variety available at breakfast and dinner. Anyway, most people are out at this time. Outside the coffee time, you could buy coffee if you want to. There is also a couple of toys for the very little ones andsomecolouring stuff and books to keep them occupied while waiting for us to finish our meals.Very thoughtful. There is free Wifi everywhere. There is a TV with mostly German & some French channels, not a great range. They give us the Montafon Guest card which we can use to get discounts on entry tickets to several places. There were only 2 minor downsides. The first one was that the coffee machine was improperly filled often - Wiener melange & cappucino were often swapped. By thetimewe reaslied this and started choosing the other option, someone would set it right, and we ended up taking what we didn't want. This toggling happened regularlym so we never knew whatwe wouldget whenwe chose cappucino! This ended up being a guessing game for us, and we were not really bothered! The second problem was that we found a broken lamp with broken pieces on our floor the next day (it was around the corner of the bed, so not readily apparent). The staff immediately removed it, but we were afraid to imagine what would have happened if our kid had stepped on it by mistake. Cleaning after checking out should have noticed this problem. But this is just a tiny problem and can be ignored considering our overall experience. This is a great place to stay in the Mondaton area. It is sort of midway between Silvretta and Schruns. So your travelling is optimised if you stay in Gaschurn. I highly recommend the First Moutain Hotel at Gaschurn, esp. if you come with kids. I would book First Moutain again, perhaps a different location.
