I was here attending an event in downtown McKinney, which was convenient from the hotel and from the freeway to access other locations (though exiting the freeway to basically a parallel "freeway" took getting used to, but that's Texas for you). I was here attending an event in downtown McKinney, which was convenient from the hotel and from the freeway to access other locations (though exiting the freeway to basically a parallel "freeway" took getting used to, but that's Texas for you). Check-in was easy, though I did need to get a physical key card - I still have been having consistency issues using my phone as a digital key. As an aside, the pool didn't look small like some other hotels that angled their pictures to make them look bigger. It's just that given the hours you can access it, I couldn't take advantage of it in the evening - when beating the Texas heat would have been really refreshing, but yeah, liability issues, etc. Elevators are a little slow, but with so few floors, not that big of an issue. Getting to my room it was certainly interesting. Yes, I did look at the room photos beforehand, but it was still a bit weird to see a curtain used as a divider between areas instead of a wall. Also weird to see same type of curtain instead of cabinet doors, but actually I didn't mind that at all. Anyways, the room was really nice, the bed was comfortable, the shower as one would expect (did give proper hot water), and while I didn't use the kitchen really, looked like you could do quite a few things there if you were prepping your own meals, etc. Speaking of that, you were in a central area where you could go for fast food if you wanted to (Whataburger, Raising Cane's, etc.), or do some grocery shopping if you wanted to make your own meals. Back to the room, the desk area had an oval table that rolled out, which was actually convenient and I used it extensively during my stay. The only significant quibble about the room (though may not be for anyone else, because who watches TV?) is that again the hotel appears to use a non-traditional provider for TV coverage (maybe something like those online cable providers), but there was a channel that I wanted to watch (TVG) that tuned into a different channel instead (TV Games) which theoretically has the same abbreviation, but the guide showed the schedule for TVG. This isn't the hotel's problem per se other than the fact that they decided to use this particular provider which I have seen at other Hilton Hotels every once in a while, but it would be nice to see it fixed. I didn't have time to stay around for breakfast, so I can't comment on that part of the stay. But when I was in the lobby, I was able to talk to the staff who were very friendly and answered any questions I had. While perhaps a more abbreviated review, it probably speaks to the fact that I have travelled extensively at this point, and the things I comment on generally are the same and that at this point it's more if I find something wrong or something exceptional. Otherwise, I figure the hotel I choose when traveling will meet my base expectations (which I figure is pretty high).
