“All fur coat and no knickers”

Just arrived back from a 3 night stay. We didn't get an option on the room but guessing we had a standard room on the 3rd floor. On first glance it looked nice but very small! Just arrived back from a 3 night stay. We didn't get an option on the room but guessing we had a standard room on the 3rd floor. On first glance it looked nice but very small! There was very limited space to hang clothes with only 4 coat hangers. There was barely enough room to walk around the bed. There was a kettle and coffee machine in the room but the kettle kept turning off before boiling so didn't use that. The biggest negative we had was the windows. One of the windows was screwed shut and the other window had no handle so was unable to open either window. There was an air conditioning control panel on the wall but that wasn't on. On our third night we asked at reception if the air conditioning could be put on as the room was so hot and we couldn't open the windows due to them being screwed shut so had to keep going outside to cool down. The lady on the desk told us the air conditioning didn't work and she couldn't change our room due to more guests arriving the following day (even though we were leaving the following morning) but she would try and get us a fan and bring it to our room. We waited until midnight and no one came. In the end we had to prop the door open for some time to cool the room down. The biggest plus was the bed! It was really clean, comfortable and the pillows were perfect. The bathroom again was very nice but very small! We did get clean towels every day and they emptied our bin everyday. The breakfast I enjoyed on the first day. There was fresh bread, some pastries, a few cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, streaky bacon, baked beans and fresh cooked tomatoes. There was also cold meats and dried out cheese. You also had teas, coffee and fruit juices. There wasn't a toaster which is a first for me not to see anyway of toasting the bread. The tables weren't cleaned from previous guests so we had to move dirty plates and spilled food to make room for ourselves. There was another breakfast room much nicer than this one but we were told we couldn't use that one as we were with a group. Second day the breakfast was exactly the same so not so much enjoyable than first day. On our last day we were allowed to use the nicer room where low and behold there was a toaster and a few different/nicer items for breakfast. The tables were much nicer and cleared quickly. The rest of the hotel that we're saw did look really nice. My husband's exact words were "all fur coat, no knickers" I understand the hotel is having some work done on it but having a room with no way of getting any air, unless we propped the door open, was the worst part for me. Especially as the weather has been quite hot and humid. After speaking to other guests who were lucky to have bigger rooms with windows that opened, it sounds like the 3rd floor is more suited to "The borrowers" (tiny people) and room 314 is the sauna!!
